In 2022, Build Up worked with the young residents in Custom House in collaboration with the members of People Empowerment Alliance for Custom House. The aim of the project was to think about how the green areas outside of housing blocks could be transformed for better use by the community.

Build Up worked with a large group of young people over a series of design sessions to think about what they would like, come up with ideas for potential sites and then work on what they would like to improve in those specific spaces.

The final design consisted of two large picnic tables that could seat whole families and some benches and chairs for resting, surrounded by flower beds for colour and to create the feeling of a small garden.

The structures were built by young people over the summer holidays and upon completion there was a big celebration. Since then, the tables have been used for doing homework and other activities.
