The Shade

Aldriche Way

One Aldrich Way is a public space on an estate which initially originated from a council commission, with a second phase that was funded by Build Up.

Build Up worked with a group of young people on the estate to design and build a community event space. The aim of the space was to provide somewhere where people can hang out, get together and celebrate special occasions.

The space features a table tennis table, a shelter and stage, as well as planters in the garden. When it was first built, the discussions to set up the project led to the roof being banned and omitted due to fears of antisocial behaviour. However following three years of the site being used, Build Up were able to prove that none of the fears had materialised. The roof was then completed, and the project expanded to add new tables and games to the site.
