In spring and summer of 2022, Build Up worked with the young residents of a large housing estate in custom house in collaboration with the members of local community group PEACH. The aim of the project was to think about how the green areas outside of the housing blocks could be transformed for better use by the community.

We worked with a large group of young people over a series of design sessions to think about what they would like, come up with ideas of potential sites and then work on what they would like to improve for those specific spaces.

The final design comprised of two large picnic tables that could seat whole families, some benches and chairs for resting, surrounded by flower beds for colour and to create the feeling of a small garden.

The structures were built with the young people over the summer holidays and upon completion there was a big celebration. Since then, the tables have been used for doing homework and other activities.
