The Broadway Fields project works with local young people and residents to improve a park in Lewisham, transforming it into a safer, more active space where people of all ages can spend time outdoors.

The project grew from People, Places & Poetry, a research initiative by local young researchers which highlighted how the lack of safe youth spaces negatively impacts mental health. Build Up worked with young people and the wider community to respond to these findings and develop a shared vision for the space.

More than 250 residents have taken part through surveys, events and design workshops. In summer 2025, local young people aged 12–18 developed a manifesto for Broadway Fields, setting priorities around safety, comfort, inclusivity and activity. This informed an early design proposal, which received strong support through consultation with local residents. Build Up is now working with Lewisham Council to secure funding and deliver the project on the ground.
