Build Up Hackney get’s the Mayor’s backing

Last month the Mayor of London announced 26 community-led campaigns the city will be backing as part of the annual Crowdfund London program. This year’s winners included our Build Up Hackney project, which was awarded £30,000.

Build Up will work with youth organisation Hackney Quest to put local young people in control of a new public space at Flanders Way. We want to make sure young people in Hackney can take control of the changes happening in their local area.

Aldriche Way The Shade

In September 2018, the Aldriche Way community, along with Build Up, sponsors and local councillors celebrated the opening of The Shade, a new community space that was designed and built by the young people that live there.

Over 60 local young people were involved in the project and their main objective was to create a space that the whole community could use and enjoy together. They designed and built a new garden, table tennis, stage, seating and BBQ area.

The project was part of London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Making Places initiative and was generously supported by the Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants, Lawsons Timber, Building & Fencing Supplies and Makita Power Tools.  This support has made possible Build Up’s biggest and most ambitious project to date.

Every One Every Day with Participatory City

On the 25th November Build Up constructed a Greenhouse for Barking’s Gascoigne Primary School at the Festival of Everyone with Participatory City.

Thank you to all the local residents who got involved and helped us get complete it in just one day!

Beyond Boundaries Pre-Apprenticeship Programme

We have now finished our first pre-apprenticeship programme as part of the Beyond Boundaries partnership with HTA Design and Somerford Grove Adventure Playground in Tottenham.

Over twelve sessions, our hard working 16-19 year olds gained experience of the whole design and construction process.  Starting with site surveying, architectural design and groundworks, the group lead the construction of an ambitious shipwreck themed sand and water play area through to completion.  Well done everyone!

And a big thank you to Volker Fitzpatrick for their involvement in the programme.

Latest Build Up Project: Rebels retreat

Latest Project: Rebels Retreat

Last week saw the completion of our latest project; The Rebels Retreat Outdoor Classroom in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park.

The project was built in only 3 days by 24 enthusiastic 12-13 year olds as part of Toynbee Hall’s Make It programme.

Cemetery Park now has a brilliant outdoor learning space for local primary school children. The team learnt new skills, made new friends and worked together to build a structure that “brings everyone together”.

Risk Agency is now Build Up Foundation

Risk Agency is now Build Up Foundation!

March is the start of a new era for Risk Agency as we kick off with a brand new name.

Founded in 2014 we were created to give young people the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone and lead construction projects.

Now in 2017 we have become Build Up Foundation; we are equipping young people with the skills, confidence and determination to succeed. Putting young people in control of construction projects that make a lasting contribution to their local community; we are building a generation who aren’t limited by where they’ve grown up.
